“In 1918 the German meteorologist and geologist Dr. Alfred Wegener published a short paper called “Haareis auf Morschem Holz” (Hair Ice on Rotten Wood). He described fine strands of ice that seemed to grow from dead wood in freezing conditions and speculated that a “mould-like fungus” might be the scaffold for these structures.” ~ Dominick Tyler, Uncommon Ground
